About Virgie Lawrence Long

I have always been interested in art and am only comfortable with a pencil in my hand. It gives me such satisfaction to be able to complete a picture, permanently capturing an emotion or a moment in time.

I have an inner feeling for all Indian art, maybe because of my birthplace and my heritage. I find the most comfort in painting those things that deal with symbols, people and pottery of the Indian nations.

Living in Hereford since 1998 has given me a new appreciation for the plants, birds, animals and landscapes that makes Texas such a beautiful place. We have an endless selection of cows with wonderful personalities to choose from!

I am enjoying working in pastels because of the instant color and intensity that is needed for Texas and New Mexico paintings. The good farming soil is ideal for gourds, which is becoming a major focus in my art. I like to grow them as well as use them for a variety of art projects.
